[glow=red,2,300]Through All the Tears[/glow]
She looked up at the ceiling; her head throbbed with pain from her sickness. The headaches were getting so bad; she couldn't even manage to stand on her own anymore. Yet she thanked god every day she was alive, alive for him, her love. He'd been right there beside her since she'd met him. She felt bad about it, but thankful none the less. He'd made so many sacrifices just for her wellbeing, and tried so hard to get her the best of the best treatments and doctors, tried so hard to help her get cured. Yet through all the prayers and tears, she was still passing in pain anyway.
Gerard clutched tightly to her hand, he knew she was going to die. The girl he'd come to love so much, was on a hospital bed, passing away slowly. He was glad to have met her that day last year. Her one wish, when she found out about the inescapable tumor, was to meet him, talk to him. He took time off touring just to spend time with her. He went everywhere with her, enjoying every second they were in the mall, or watching a movie at her house.
It was so sudden that she collapsed, there in the middle of the hall. His mind remembered that instant as if it had just happened, replaying in his mind every second her pain carried on. It had only happened three days ago, but it seemed she'd had this terrible aching for years.
He'd gone to church, he'd prayed for her, he tried everything he could, he just wanted her alive and well again, he didn't want to see her in pain. He felt as though he'd failed the 23 year old Tina, the woman of his dreams. He'd tried to fix her, he'd paid for all of her treatments, all of her hospital visits and still she was dying. He felt he hadn't tried hard enough, he could have done more, he should be doing more, but his mind was drawing blanks, he'd tried everything multiple times, in hopes of a miracle.
"Gerard." She groaned at a soft whisper.
Gerard looked to her face, tears were sliding out of her glossy green eyes. He knew that any moment, she'd be gone. "What is it, sweetie?" He asked quietly, not wanting to put her in more pain by speaking loudly.
"Don't leave me." She closed her eyes, holding as tight as her weakened hand could to his.
"I won't." He breathed, raising her hand to his lips, and giving it a gentle kiss. He'd refused to leave her side since she'd been admitted to the hospital. He was afraid that if he left her, she'd die alone. So it was no problem not to leave when she'd asked.
"Life does this to us. It makes us high, happier than we've ever been, and then it takes us away. Remember, I love you always. I'll wait for you to come to me in death. We'll have more time there. Write your songs, make sure they have feeling, don't hide your unhappiness under your stage presence. Show them, tell everyone you're story, tell them, Gerard. Don't forget me." She said. Gerard could tell that it was paining her just to talk, and wished she would just rest, but knew that she wouldn't rest until she'd said all she wanted to.
"I will. I promise." He stroked her hair away from her face, and stood up to kiss her forehead.
"Sing to me?" She asked hopefully, her eyes still shut as her eyebrows raised with expectancy.
"Of course." He nodded, even though she couldn't see him.
"Desert song." She requested.
"Alright." He said, a tear slipping from his eye, he wanted to argue that he couldn't do it, not with her dying like this, he just couldn't make it through the song, and he knew he wouldn't be able to. He looked at her pale, weak face, her chapped, pale pink lips, her now open, fading green eyes, and knew he had to try; he had to try, for her.
"I'll be seeing you. We'll talk when I wake up." She whispered, smiling, knowing fully well that once she went to sleep, she'd never wake again. But she wanted to make it easier on him.
He began to sing softly, holding her hand, to his face. She held tight as he sang to her, she knew the end was oh so very near, but she had to make it through the song.
Through Gerard's beautiful singing voice, she felt free. She knew that her brain was slowly shutting everything down, and she would pass away any moment, but she'd never been happier. Her breathing slowed, and as did her heart, he was almost done singing, and she was almost done living.
"…All fall down, well after all…" He finished. He looked at her beautiful face, a smile spread across it. Her smiling, delicate, angel face was stained with tears. He was sure, immediately, it was over, the song, and her being. Tina's grip on his hand loosened, and he knew she was gone.
He wished he'd told her he loved her, as he cried into her hand. He thought of all the good things about her, how she was so supernatural, so patient, so caring, so unique from all the others, so set on the fact that she'd live. He almost believed her when she talked about getting out of the hospital, and he'd started making plans of how he'd ask her to marry him in his head.
She was gone, waiting for him to come to her. She would always be in his heart, standing right beside him while he sang to the crowd, always on his mind, always in his heart. Even though she was right in the bed he sat next to, she was long gone. And there was nothing to do about it. All the work he'd put into trying to save her, all the tears he'd shed, and she'd still passed out of his life.
But he'd be stronger, push on, and keep moving, just like she'd always told him to. Every time he'd try to step out of his life, her voice would push him back in, keeping him alive and well until it was his time to pass.
